Evening Prayer
EVENING PRAYER
In the name of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit
Amen
We have come together as the family of God
in our Father's presence
to offer him praise and thanksgiving
to hear and receive his holy word
to bring before him the needs of the world
to ask his forgiveness of our sins
and to seek his grace
that through his Son Jesus Christ
we may give ourselves to his service.
The Lord lifts up the humble and meek
Let us worship and praise him
Lord, open our lips
That we may glorify and praise your Name
Glory to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen
Praise the Lord. Alleluia
Hail Gladdening Light
1 Hail, gladdening Light, of his pure glory poured
Who is the immortal Father, heavenly, blest,
Holiest of Holies, Jesus Christ our Lord!
2 Now we are come to the sun's hour of rest,
The lights of evening round us shine,
We hymn the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit divine.
3 Worthiest art thou at all times to be sung
With undefiled tongue,
Son of our God, giver of life, alone:
Therefore in all the world thy glories, Lord, they own.
Let us call to mind and confess our sins
Silence may be kept. Then is said
Almighty God, our heavenly Father
in penitence we confess
that we have sinned against you
through our own fault
in thought, word, and deed
and in what we have left undone.
For the sake of your Son, Christ our Lord
forgive us all that is past
and grant that we may serve you
in newness of life
to the glory of your Name.
Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and
keep us in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
PSALM 48
1 Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised:
in the city of our God.
2 High and beautiful is his holy hill:
it is the joy of all the earth.
+3 On Mount Zion where godhead truly dwells
stands the city of the Great King:
God is well known in her palaces as a sure delfence.
4 For the kings of the earth assembled:
they gathered together and came on;
5 They saw they were struck dumb:
they were astonished and fled in terror.
6 Trembling took hold on them and anguish:
as on a woman in her travail;
7 Like the breath of the east wind:
that shatters the ships of Tarshish.
8 As we have heard so have we seen —
in the city of the Lord of hosts:
in the city of our God
which God has established for ever.
9 We have called to mind your loving-kindness 0 God:
in the midst of your temple.
10 As your name is great 0 God so also is your praise:
even to the ends of the I earth.
11 Your right hand is full of victory
let Zion's hill reljoice:
let the daughters ofjudahbe glad
because of your judgments.
12 Walk about Zion go round about her
and I count all her I towers:
consider well her ramparts pass through her
palaces;
13 That you may tell those who come after that such is God:
our God for ever and ever and he will guide us eternally.
Glory to the Father and to the Son: and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the belginning: is now and will be for ever. Amen
PSALM 87
1 He has founded it upon a holy hill
and the Lord loves the gates of Zion
more than all the dwellings of Jacob.
2 Glorious things shall be spoken of you
O Zion city of our God.
3 I might speak of my kinsmen in Egypt or in Babylon:
in Philistia Tyre or Nubia where each was born.
4 But of Zion it i shall be said
many were born in her
he that is Most High has established her.
5 When the Lord draws up the record of the nations:
he shall take note where every man was I born.
6 And the singers and the dancers together:
shall make their song to ypur name.
Glory to the Father and to the Son: and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning: is now and will be for ever. Amen

1 My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord: my
spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.
2 For he has looked with favour on his lowly servant:
from this day all generations will I call me
blessed.
3 The Almighty has done great things for me: and
holy is his Name.
4 He has mercy on those who fear him: in every
generation.
5 He has shown the strength of his arm: he has
scattered the proud in their conlceit.
6 He has cast down the mighty from their thrones:
and has lifted up the lowly.
7 He has filled the hungry with good things: and
the rich he has sent a-way empty.
8 He has come to the help of his servant Israel: for
he has remembered his promise of mercy.
+9 The promise he made to our forebears: to
Abraham and his children for ever.
Glory to the Father and to the Son: and to the
Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning: is now and will be for
ever. Amen ^

have prepared in the sight of every people.
3 A light to reveal you to the nations: and the
glory of your people Israel.

As it was in the belginning: is now and will be for ever • Amen
