Welcome and Introduction
Welcome to a quiet afternoon on the Feast of the Presentation
of our Lord in the Temple. On this day we remember the visit of Mary and Joseph with
the Baby Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem for Mary's purification and for the
presentation of their first-born son to God.
This quiet afternoon is entitled A Light to lighten the Gentiles which
are words from the canticle, the Nunc Dimittis said at Evening Prayer and Compline each day.
During this afternoon we are going to try and understand Mary who pondered all that happen in her heart;
try and understand Simeon and his faithfulness; and also look at his prophecy about Jesus. And finally try
and understand what the Nunc Dimittis can mean for us today.
The programme that will be followed is here but before going there
let us pray that God will direct our hearts and minds this afternoon
